Welcome!

Hi,
I've created this informal blog to share with you, a life of African drumming and dance here in Australia...Join the tribe and follow our adventures! We're passionate about West African Drumming and Dance. I started AFROBEAT in 1998 in the Blue Mountains (2 hours North West of Sydney). Back then, we were the first drumming and dance group to create an 'online' presence! Everybody always asks...'How did I get into this?' So here's my story.... My love of African drumming and Dance started when I discovered 'Brackets and Jam', an evening of communal drum beats, dance and DJ upstairs, and poetry and acoustic sets downstairs for aspiring artists at 'The Good Bar' on Oxford Street in Sydney on a Monday night.

I'd just moved to Sydney from Melbourne. I was 19, wide eyed and ready for the adventure of my life. I didn't have any plans. I was hooked! I didn't have a drum, but I started to imagine myself drumming and I'd dance to these infectious rhythms and the energy of the people who created them! The adrenalin and high I was left with, helped me walk the couple of kilometres home to Bondi Junction...just long enough for the sweat to dry and the lingered energy to wane. Soon I was saving for a round the world adventure which took me to Africa... here I bought my first drum.... To be continued........................
